Number of patients with skin cancer can be reduced in Belgium (press release of belgian Parliament)

Better information, faster detection and self-control are necessary.

Skin cancer is the most common cancer in Belgium. During the past decade, each year 5% more Belgians were diagnosed with skin cancer: an increase in absolute numbers of more than 70%. In the Netherlands it is expected that 1 in 6 people before his 85th will develop some form of skin cancer.

Belgian scientists say that this trend can be extrapolated to Belgium. This means that some 660,000 Belgians in the future will have skin cancer.

Because a coherent policy is important, four MPs put skin cancer in all its facets on the agenda of Parliament - with the support of the Belgian specialists in skin cancer.



Three distinct points are on the agenda: there is a need for sustained information and education campaigns, middle-aged and older people deserve special attention, and lastly , additional training of general practitioners can make a difference.
