Food supplements offer risks , little benefits

Food supplements craze in the U.S. almost subsided?.


The case for food supplements is undermined, writes The Wall Street Journal. A series of large-scale studies show that multivitamin supplements (which Americans love, and Europeans mostly ignore) rarely offer health benefits. Sometimes they can even cause health problems. These supplements (in the United States not only in pharmacies, but almost available everywhere ) represent a market of $ 28 billion (19.8 billion Euros) a year.

A normal, varied diet is still the cornerstone for a healthy life. Supplements are not necessary in this case. This includes a balance between proteins, carbohydrates and fats.
Fresh fruits, vegetables and fibers are the most 'forgotten'. Animal fats and sugar are often too abundant in the daily diet.
