Aftercare
AFTERCARE
- We are 24/24 hours, 7/7 available for advice (over the phone)
- During the immediate postoperative period you are in Belgium. If there is a problem, this is usually happening in that period. You will be monitored by our nurse and by the surgeon. The surgeon will recommend you upon the first consultation how long after your procedure that you should stay in Belgium.
- Most sutures are dissolvable and buried underneath ths skin.
- A nurse can be arranged to see you in the UK , every day postoperatively, but usually this is not necessary .
- Checkups are done in London on a monthly base.
- Some patients take out extra travel insurance, for example with: FREE SPIRIT Travel for Treatment - a specially designed travel insurance policy for people travelling abroad for medical procedures: http://www.freespirittravelfortreatment.com/ .

Guarantee of outcomes + warranty of implants
Dr Oelbrandt will do everything to maximise the outcome. Despite the best efforts of both patients and plastic surgeon, a small percentage of surgeries will not have the best outcomes , or it may be that the patient wants a perfect result. As the healing processes of the body are not always predictable, a plastic surgery result may be potentially affected by many factors including complications (e.g., infection) or undesired results in the size or shape of the surgically treated area (eg too big or too small breast implants, chosen by the patient herself) . As a result, additional surgery may be needed to obtain the desired or perfect result. The need for this additional surgery for elective plastic surgery is estimated to be about 10 - 15%, which may be higher or lower depending upon the particular procedure being performed. So you can see that its occurrence is not rare. It is important for all patients considering plastic surgery to understand that undesired postoperative results can and do occur, and the potential need for revision exists with every surgical procedure. Let me reiterate these points again: · surgical outcomes can not be guaranteed, · the need for revisional (= repair of a complication) or additional (= towards a more perfect result) surgery in elective cosmetic surgery is not rare · and, when needed, incurs expense to perform. Should an extra procedure be necessary, the sticking point that most consistently generates friction is not that more surgery may be needed....but the expenses incurred in so doing. In other words, who is going to pay for it? These issues are particularly relevant to those patients who have limited financial resources and have expended those resources in having the original procedure performed. The potential need for additional surgery and its costs should be considered during the decision-making process when contemplating any form of elective cosmetic surgery. Any revision surgery under a local anaesthetic is free of charge. Most secondary surgery under a twilight is 375 £ , and under a general anaesthetic is 500 - 750 £ during the first 3 years. The cost for changing the implants in case too big/small is 1950 £ within the first 2 years. The cost for a revision eg capsular contracture, scars, …) is around 375 £ during the first 3 years , unless in case of infection or malposition of the implant. In those cases is it free of charge. The cost of changing a broken implant within the first 5 years is approximately 650 £. The implant itself is warranted by the manufacturer. After liposuction or liposculpture, the cost for removing more fat at the same area is 1/3 (one third ) of the cost of the initial operation when done within the first 2 years (on the condition that the patient has the same or a lighter weight) . Note : some clinics promess a warranty during the first year , but this is the time that you are healing, and in most cases it is best to wait at least 6 months , if not 12 months in order to assess the outcome of the original surgery. We only charge a small fee, in order to cover the anaesthetist. In most cases revision surgery is not truly a revision, but designed to have a more perfect outcome (so reaching closer to perfection).
Consent form
Before every procedure, every patient has to sign a consent form. These are some clauses which are present in every consent form :
- These procedures are performed for cosmetic reasons and because of this, the results can only be assessed subjectively. Therefore, patients have to understand that while they have been advised as to the probable result, this should in no way be interpreted as a guarantee.
- These treatments/operations are always carried out in Belgium. Conflicts or claims about any aspect of the medical or hospital care or treatment shall be governed by Belgian laws.
Cancellation Policy
When cancelling within the last 3 days, the administrative fee is 300 £ for the clinic and 500 £ for the hospital, except if there are good reasons to do so (e.g. illness , major transport problems, serious family problems...); in that case the surgery is simply postponed to a later date.
The reason for this fee is the fact that booking a team ( consisting out of several nurses and doctors) and making a reservation in the clinic/hospital is costly and can not be undone a few days before surgery.
Complaints Policy
Complaints policy for patients if they had a concern they wished to raise : by email or letter : - for the Singelbergclinic : please address Dr Oelbrandt - for the Sint Jozef hospital : please address Dr Oelbrandt , the medical director Jan Hertog , or Dr Karl Hendrickx (anaesthetist). You may expect an answer within 7 days.
